Footage of the RQ-170 Sentinel high-altitude stealth drone was shown on Iranian state TV.
Iranian state television has aired video footage of a U.S. spy aircraft that Tehran says it downed near the Afghan border.
The images showed an advanced RQ-170 drone, which appeared to be largely undamaged.
General Ami Ali Hajizadeh, commander of the Revolutionary Guards’ air force, said Iranian forces had brought down the drone electronically.
Meanwhile, Iranian media said the Foreign Ministry had summoned the Swiss envoy in Tehran to express its “strongest protest over the invasion of a U.S. spy drone deep into its airspace.”
The Swiss Embassy handles U.S. interests in the absence of Iran-U.S. diplomatic relations.
NATO has said that a reconnaissance aircraft had been flying over western Afghanistan last week when its operators lost control of it.
Iranian media reported that the drone had been brought down by Iranian armed forces.
“The New York Times” reported that the drone had been part of a U.S. surveillance program mapping Iran’s suspected nuclear sites.
