Ahmadinejad expresses support for “step by step” plan

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, Iranian president has expressed support for the Russian “step by step” plan to end the disputes over Iran’s nuclear program and said the Islamic Republic is willing to participate in proposing ways of promoting cooperation.

IRNA reports that Ahmadinejad said in a meeting with Nicolai Patrushev, head of the Russian National Security Council: “It is necessary to take real positive steps in order to guarantee the continued expansion of mutual cooperation between the two countries and the launch of the Bushehr Nuclear Plant could be such an effective and positive step.”

The “step by step” plan proposes to reward Iran by loosening of international sanctions and restrictions every time they respond to the questions and concerns of the IAEA about its nuclear activities.

Nicolai Patrushev said that Russia is prepared to do its share in promoting bilateral and regional relationships as well as assuring the launch of the Bushehr Nuclear Plant.”

Bushehr Nuclear Plant, Iran’s first nuclear power plant which has been completed with the participation of Russian contractors, has run into several delays in its launch in the past years.

Iranian Foreign Minister, Ali Akbar Salehi also travelled to Russia on Tuesday to discuss the nuclear issues and the “step by step” plan.
